Bielefeld University, Germany

The Bielefeld Representation Theory Group (BIREP) at Bielefeld University has existed for more than 40 years. Currently the permanent members are Bill Crawley-Boevey, Henning Krause, and Claus Michael Ringel (emeritus). Beyond the representation theory of finite dimensional associative algebras, there is interest in related questions in linear algebra, ring and module theory, algebraic geometry, and homological algebra.

Members of the group in Bielefeld include a handful of postdocs and a handful of PhD students. The group always welcomes visitors for periods ranging from just a week until several months. There is a regular research seminar each Friday afternoon, and a special series of talks devoted to selected topics in representation theory. Further activities include the organisation of workshops, summer schools, and major conferences.
